Q: When I start password commander, I receive the following error: "Protection Error 171". Can you please help quickly?

A: Remove file "License.ini" from the folder where it is installed Password Commander and restart the program.

Q: How do I change a password for an account? When I try to change it, the program displays the message "Unable to change the password for AutoLogin-account Change the account type in the options and try again". What should I do?

A: You cannot change password for AutoLogin accounts because it directly depends on the unique identification number of your Windows account. That is why you should change the account type to standard if you still want to change its password. You can do it in the "Account" section of the Account Settings window.

Q: I have not installed any encryption plug-ins. What algorithm is used to encrypt my password database?

A: Data in your database are obfuscated first and then compressed by the LHA algorithm. It is not actually encryption, but this method provides some data protection.

Q: How do I create skins/plug-ins?

A: Visit the "For Developers" section on our site where you can find all the documentation you need.

Q: How do I import data from SuperDuper Password Manager into Password Commander?

A: There is no automatic importing system so far, so the only way to do it is manually.

Q: How do I use backup copies? And what is that strange number 300 in the backup settings?

A: All backup copies are saved with the following name format: Account name (YYYY.MM.DD_hh-mm-ss).~pwd. For example: Sample (Password = 123) (2004.09.08_10-26-35).~pwd means that this is a backup copy of the "Example (Password = 123)" account created September 8, 2004 at 10 hours 26 minutes and 35 seconds. To view the contents of a backup copy, you should change its extension to PWD and open it.

Q: I forgot my password. Help me recover it!

A: Unfortunately, it is impossible. We did some serious work concerning the security of the program and even the authors of Password Commander are helpless in this case. Accept our condolences and try to remember your password once again anyway...

Q: I reinstalled my operating system. Before that I had used the AutoLogin account. But it won't load in the new system, what should I do?

A: If you forgot the password generated by Password Commander when you were creating that account, there is nothing you can do. The password cannot be recovered. If you remember the password and you can log into the account manually, but it does not load automatically, you should load the account, and select the "Update Password to the AutoLogin Account" item from the "Options" menu.

Q: I have Win98, why doesn't the AutoFill feature work in the Opera browser?

A: Due to the peculiarities of the Windows 95/98/Me operating systems, the AutoFill feature does not work in browsers other than Internet Explorer.

Q: I have been using your Password Generator for two days trying to create a password that would match the password to my neighbor's FTP server and there have not been any matches so far! What should I do? Maybe, I should try to use generation by a dictionary?

A: You are using Password Commander for the wrong purpose. Use special password recovery software, but you'd better respect each other and not violate the law!

Q: I use PC both at home and at work. How do I synchronize accounts and settings?

A: So far the only way to do it is to select the "Copy account files" item from the "File" menu, copy account files to a removable device before you go to work. Use these files at work and then bring them back home and copy to their old location.

Q: I cannot set a password to the folder with my favorite music! How can I do it?

A: You can't. Password Commander is not used for setting passwords to folders, files and other file system objects. Password Commander is used for storing and managing passwords in a convenient way.

Q: What's all this terminology of yours for? Global Options, Account Settings... What's all this?

A: Global Options are common for all accounts and Password Commander users working under one Windows account. Account Settings are for one account only.
